B'nai Israel is a community of life-long learners! 

Throughout the year, we sponsor adult education courses led by Rabbi David Kaiman as well as Professors from the University of Florida's Center for Jewish Studies.  

Torah on Tuesday with Rabbi Kaiman

Every Tuesday at noon in the B'nai Israel Social Hall
Bring a brown bag vegetarian/dairy lunch or nosh on refreshments that we'll provide over an engaging discussion of the week's Torah portion.

The Holocaust as International History - Romania's Jews and the World with Professor Norman J.W. Goda


The brief presentation will look at the Holocaust from an international perspective focusing on Romania's Jews, the boundaries against emigration, their relationship with the USSR, Romanian antisemitic atrocities, and what foreign governments, including the United States, understood of the Jewish plight. It promotes rethinking the Holocaust not from the exclusive focal point of Nazi Germany but more from variant Jewish and national viewpoints. Question and answer will follow.

The Reader: A Selichot Discussion with Professor Eric Kligerman

We encourage you to read the book and/or watch the movie in preparation for the discussion. Although we will not be screening the film at the synagogue, we will watch several scenes together.
 
Together we will explore the following themes:
Distinctions between guilt, responsibility and justice
Remembering, repeating and working-through the past
The social and political responsibilites of Germany's post-war generation

Preparing for the Holidays with Rabbi David Kaiman

Together, we'll review the themes and prayers for the High Holidays, along with some explanations of various prayers found in the High Holiday Prayerbook.  It will be an excellent evening to "set the tone" for the upcoming holidays.

Google's Director of Technology to Speak at B'nai Israel

Join us on Sunday, July 25 at 2 p.m. for a program with Craig Silverstein, who was Google's first employee and continues to serve as Google's Director of Technology. Craig will speak about the development of search capabilities at Google and what the future holds for search engines.

Junque to Jewels has come and gone, and we'd like to thank the devoted members of our congregation for making this fundraiser a success! We couldn't have done it without the generous contributions from many of our members and the tireless efforts of our volunteer staff who sorted, priced and organized items.
